It is widely believed now that the potential benefits of big data are significant for research which has been revolutionized by the availability of huge volumes of data. Data-intensive science is becoming a more and more prevalent model of research. It occurs not only in science disciplines but also in social science disciplines. This workshop was joint hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Center for Bioinformation Technology with the title of Data Intensive Research and Data Science which advances with the times. Both Chinese and American experts had a heated academic discussion and communication in Data Science, Data Sources and Storage, Analysis of Big Data and Data usage in several research fields and gave valuable advices.

Both Chinese and American experts said that after two-days meeting, they had a deep knowledge of the development of Data Science in China and America and gained valuable experience, hoping there will be more academic exchanges and lay a solid foundation for the future cooperation.
