Professor Jin Ling Tang
from The Chinese University of Hong Kong visited SCBIT
Professor Jin Ling TANG, Associate Director and the Head of Division of Epidemiology of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong visited Shanghai Center for Bioinformation Technology on August 28th, 2012. Vice director of Shanghai Center for Bioinformation Technology, Professor Liu Lei received Professor TANG and attended the lecture and the discussion.
Professor TANG qualified as a public health doctor in Peking University Medical School (formerly Beijing Medical University) and obtained his Master of Science degree in epidemiology in London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and PhD in the University of London, and received post-doctoral training in the University of Oxford. Professor TANG was awarded in 2002 Cheung Kong Scholars Professor of Peking University. He is con-currently appointed the Chairman of Peking University National 211 Project Committee for Evidence-Based Medicine and heads Peking University Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine and Clinical Research and serves as a member of the Chinese National Committee for Health Risk Management and an editorial board member of medical journals including British Medical Journal-Chinese Edition and Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine.
Professor TANG made a lecture under the title of Evidence-Based Medicine and The Development of Medical Information. First, Professor TANG explained the concept of evidence-based and evidence-based clinicalpractice and raised the three elements that influence medical decision-making: the best evidence, the available resources and the personal value orientation.
Professor TANG thinks that the major problem of medicine is the research results are not systematically applied to the clinical treatment and the difficulties in Evidence-based medicine like uncertain scientific research aim, medical information difficult to understand or find. The ideal state of evidence-based medicine is the supply of medical evidence to be comprehensive, timely, concise, reliable and have strong correlation, which is the working direction of current medical information development.
Professor Tang said that the research of evidence providing in medical decision-making is basically still a blank in China, while expanding the scale and scope of mutual offering of medical information systems throughout the world are urgent problems need to be solved.
Professor Liu Lei and Professor TANG had a heated discussion of the biomedical aspects and hoped to be able to conduct in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the future.
